The Secret Of The Tooth Fairy

By Dave Gore

It was a bright summer’s day as a beautiful fairy called daisy was working in the garden of the king, who ruled over the humans.

Daisy’s job that day was to sprinkle magic dust over all the flowers to make them bright and colourful, she looked around the garden seeing a rainbow of all the different colours that she had made the flowers that morning.

Daisy was so busy enjoying the garden that she didn’t see the young princess who lived in the palace coming towards her and as every fairy knows that when a human is near fairies, or touches a fairy, the fairies cannot move and they look just like small toy fairies.

Well daisy just froze where she stood, she couldn’t even move her little finger, ‘O’ what have I done she thought, I should have been more careful I hope she doesn’t see me, but the princess had seen daisy.

Another little fairy the princess cried and picked Daisy up.

This one is even prettier than the other fairies I have said the princess and started to make her way back to the castle.

When the princess arrived back at the castle she made her way up to her room and placed Daisy inside a little toy castle that she loved to play with, she then ran off to tell her father the king that she had found another fairy.

Inside the toy castle were two other fairies that the princess had found in the garden and although fairies cannot move when they have been picked up by humans they still have the power to talk, another fairy has been caught cried the other two fairies how did the princess catch you they asked?

I was to busy looking at all the colours of the flowers that I didn’t see or hear her coming said Daisy, how long have you been here and how did you get caught asked daisy?

The first fairy said my name is Buttercup I have been her for nearly six weeks, I was to busy enjoying the garden that I didn’t see the princess coming, the second fairy said her name was Bluebell and that she had been here for four weeks and that she had been caught the same way as buttercup.

The fairies talked to each other and told Daisy how the princess had looked after them well and although they had heard other fairies in the garden they couldn’t call for help, because either the princess was playing with them or the fairy in the garden couldn’t hear them because of the birds singing.

Just then the princess came back into her room with her father, look said the princess as she picked up Daisy to show her father, she is a pretty one said the king, I wonder where they keep coming from?

The guard’s say that nobody has been seen entering the garden and that the gates are always locked and a guard stands on duty day and night, I don’t know either said the princess but I’m glad that they do keep turning up, I like them.

After the king had left, the princess played with the fairies for a while, she put another small bed in one of the rooms, another chair at the table and a cup and plate on the table, shall we have a tea party said the princess to the fairies and pretended to pour a cup of tea from the teapot for all the fairies and herself.

After a while she said to the fairies I have to go and do some homework but I will come back and play with you later, she closed the front of the toy castle and left the room.

Meanwhile back in the fairy kingdom the queen of the fairies was asking all the other fairies if they had seen Daisy as she hadn’t returned from dusting the flowers in the king’s garden, none of the other fairies said that they had seen her and that two fairies had gone to the garden to look for her, but she was nowhere to be found.

That’s the third fairy that has gone missing said the queen, they can’t have just disappeared, but they had.

She then told all the fairies to go and search for them in the human kingdom and in the fairy kingdom, but to be careful as she didn’t want to lose another fairy.

All the fairies flew off to search for Daisy and the other two fairies, but when they had all returned the answer was the same, they were nowhere to be found.

The next day the king, queen and the princess were going away to visit a king and queen from another kingdom for a week, can I bring my fairies asked the princess?

No you must leave them here said the queen, you don’t want to loose them or forget to bring them back when we return.

The princess went to her room and told the fairies that she had to go away for a week but she would play with them when she returned.

Two days later another fairy was sprinkling the dust on all the flowers in the king’s garden while singing, inside the castle daisy and the other two fairies heard the fairy singing and all together shouted Help.

The fairy in the garden couldn’t hear them though as her singing and the birds that were joining in covered the fairies shout for help, it’s no good said daisy she can’t here us.

Meanwhile outside in the garden the fairy had almost finished dusting all the flowers, only that rose bush to do by the castle she said to herself, she said goodbye to the birds and made her way over to the rosebush.

Inside the castle the three fairies had almost given up on calling for help, lets try just once more they said and this time as loud as we can.

Help they all shouted at the top of their voice we are in the castle, well this time the fairy heard them, she flew up to the window where she had heard the call and looked into the princess’s room.

Over here shouted the three fairies, we can’t move, we were taken by the princess in the garden and now all our powers have gone.

I will fly back and tell the queen what has happened said the fairy and away she flew.

She told the queen what had happened and all the other fairies said what can we do? We can’t risk going into the palace said the queen, if we are seen we will all end up the same and once a fairy has lost her powers they can’t get them back.

We can’t just leave them there said the other fairies we have to do something.

We won't said the queen, but I need to find out if there is a way to get their powers back and get them out without any more of my fairies getting  caught.

The queen asked all the other fairies to go to all the other fairy kingdoms in the world and ask if anyone new of a way to free the fairies and to get there powers back.

While the other fairies searched for a way the queen looked through all her magic and potion books but no spell or potion could be found.

The queen waited for the return of the fairies and as one by one returned the story was the same, no other fairy kingdom knew of a way to restore the fairies powers.

As the queen and the other fairies were giving up hope of ever seeing the three fairies again the last of the fairies returned, I’ve found a way said the fairy excitedly but how we can do it I don’t know.

Tell me said the queen and we will try.

The fairy told how she had travelled all the way to Africa and after visiting the kingdom of a very old fairy queen, the queen had told her of the only way she had heard the spell could be broken, was to make a necklace out of children’s teeth and to put it around the fairies neck, this would make them invisible and return their powers to them., but it had never been tried and that she didn’t know if it would work.

We can’t just go taking children’s teeth said the fairies and if we try we will get caught and end up the same as the three fairies who are in the palace.

The queen thought of it for a while and then came up with an idea, if we sprinkle some of our magic dust on all the children it will make them place the teeth they loose under their pillow at night and we could go and collect them while they slept and if they are asleep we will be safe and not get caught, we could then make the necklaces out of them.

We can’t just take their teeth said another fairy that would be stealing, not if we left a coin in its place said the queen.

So the queen got all the fairies to fly high in the sky over the human kingdom and sprinkle the magic dust on all the children.

As soon as it was night the queen told all the fairies that they were to go and collect as many teeth as they could and to leave a coin in its place, but to only go into the children’s room if they were asleep.

Soon the fairies had collected hundreds of small teeth; they got to work making the necklaces and soon had a necklace for every fairy in the kingdom.

All the fairies then put a necklace around their neck but they were not invisible, they could still see each other, perhaps it doesn’t work said the fairies to each other, it might just make us invisible to humans said the queen and until we try it we will never know.

I need a brave fairy to go with these three necklaces to the human palace and to put them around the three fairies necks said the queen, but as we don’t know if it will work we need to be very careful .

The fairy who had come back from Africa said that she would go and that she would be very careful.

The queen gave the necklaces to the fairy and away she flew to the garden in the human kingdom, she hid behind some bushes and looked around, all was quiet and the moon lit up the garden showing all was clear.

The fairy flew up to the window and looked inside, the princess was not in her room, she could see the other fairies standing still in the toy palace, she flew across to the toy palace and one by one placed a necklace around the three fairies, as soon as the necklace was around the fairies neck they found that they could all move.

Just then the door to the room opened and in walked the princess, it was too late to hide she was coming straight towards them.

Where have my toy fairies gone cried the princess as she walked towards the toy palace someone must have taken them while I was away.

She can’t see us whispered the fairies the necklaces do work and look we can still move.

The princess ran out of her room crying and calling for her mother to come and see.

The four fairies flew out of the toy palace, out of the window and back to the fairy kingdom.

When they arrived all the other fairies and the queen cheered as the necklaces had worked and the four fairies had managed to get back safely.

They told their stories to all the fairies and said that they were pleased to be back, but that they were upset that the princess was now sad, as she had no fairies in her toy palace, don’t worry said the queen I can fix that, I can make toy figures of the three of you that she had and place them in your place.

She looked at each of the three fairies and said the magic words, "A fairy toy like you I need and off to the princess go at speed", there it’s done said the queen the toy fairies that look like you will now be in the princesses toy palace.

Back at the human palace the princess and the queen had just come back into the princess’s room, look they have gone cried the princess someone has taken them, well what are those three fairies standing in your toy palace said the queen?

The princess looked and couldn’t believe her eyes, there were her three fairies where she had left them before going away, but she started to say, I think you are just tired after all the travelling said the queen off to bed with you I’m sure that they will still be there in the morning.

The princess said I’m sure they were not there when I looked but perhaps you’re right I am tired, the princess said goodnight to the queen and was soon tucked up in bed and fast asleep.

The next day all was back to normal, the fairies were back doing all their jobs, and they could now take their time as they couldn’t be seen or caught.

When the princess woke in the morning she went straight to her toy palace and the three toy fairies were still there where she had left them.

The queen of the fairies now and again said the magic words to make another toy fairy and made it appear in the princess’s garden, the princess still collects the fairies but now she needs a bigger toy castle to fit them all in.

The fairies still go out at night to collect children’s teeth and leave a coin under their pillow to make necklaces for they never know when they might need them again.

The End
