The Fairy Cats

Deep in the forest hidden from everyone, was a secret village that no one had ever seen.

Everything was different from the world that all people and other animals lived, for here there were rivers that ran with milk as white as snow and the only fish that swam in the river they were known as the milky fish, for here lived the fairy cat’s and they had lived there for hundreds of years.

The Queen of the fairy cat’s was known as Bee, now Bee was very pretty and she always looked after all the other Fairy cat’s that lived here in the village and the Cat palace.

But one day without warning something happened that had never before happened for over five hundred years, a mouse called Mark had entered the palace grounds.

The Fairy cat’s left him alone as they had all the food they would ever need. But one day Mark the mouse started to eat the fairy cat’s cheese that was kept in the kitchen.

Somehow he had found the key that opened the fridge.

But Mark the mouse was a little silly though, instead of keeping the key he left it in the fridge keyhole, this he thought would save time searching for the key again and this gave away what he had done, for the key was never left in the keyhole.

Why this was unheard of in the fairy cats kingdom, for this was a special cheese that had a magic ingredient inside called Catnip, this would always keep the fairy cats happy and why he even had the nerve to try to catch the milky fish, that swam in the milky river, but he was no match for them because the mouse had never learned to swim.

The milky fish would lie on the top of the milky water and then start swimming closer and closer towards the mouse, then just as the mouse thought he could catch one they would all stop just out of the reach of his mouth and laugh at the mouse and call him names.

This did upset Mark the mouse but he was sure that one day he would get his own back on the milky fish.

The fairy cat soldiers were sent out of the palace to find and capture the intruding mouse, bring him back alive it is possible said Bee the queen, but if not just bring the dead mouse back and I will put a special spell on it so it will come back to life in the outside world.

What Bee was really thinking was, I haven’t had a nice juicy mouse for my breakfast for over a hundred years, in fact I can’t even remember if I liked them?

Well the soldiers searched the castle but Mark the mouse could not be found they then searched all the grounds and the village, perhaps he has gone now and will never come back said the Top Cat of the army.

Well days passed and nothing happened, everything returned to normal, the fairy cats would swim in the milky river, catch a few of the milky fish and have a drink from the milky river before resting and sleeping in the warm sunshine.

The evening meal inside the palace returned to normal as well and after eating the special cheese, the fairy cats would chase the dancing lights that they could all see but never catch until the Catnip had worn off of them all.

Now they would all be tired, so off they would go and curl up then sleep until the morning sun awoke them again.

They found that having a few glasses of the milky water that they had taken from the fridge at breakfast seemed to clear their heads and help make them feel alive again.

Well all was quiet for a while and things slowly got back to normal the fairy cats were looking forward to Christmas for Queen Bee always gave all the fairy cats that lived in the palace and the village a gift at Christmas.

Queen Bee was always thinking of what her fairy cats would really like, sometimes it would be a clockwork mouse to run after why this always kept the fairy cats fit, or it might be a ball hanging on string from up high, again the fairy cats enjoyed trying to jump and pull the ball down to the ground and again it kept them all fit.

Why once she even gave every fairy cat a small bottle of Catnip, but Bee found that this made the fairy cats a little too merry and therefore not a lot of work had got done for a few days and she had even had to make her own breakfast, this had never been heard of before.

Queen Bee had made a list of all the presents that she would buy and informed the palace driver, that she would need a lift from the palace car into the village where she would buy all the presents, the cat fairies that owned the shops where she brought the presents would always get a present from one of the other shops.

Queen Bee spent most of the day doing her shopping and handing all the wrapped up presents that had each and every fairy cats name on the wrapping, this saved the queen having to do all the hard work, or was it that she was just lazy?

By the end of the day Queen Bee was feeling a little tired, luckily she only did this once a year, for the fairy cat’s birthdays she would just get one of her maids to do it.

Soon Queen Bee was back at the palace and looking forward to having a little sleep, but first she would have a small piece of the cheese, this she was sure would help her get to sleep quicker.

Well while all this had been going on, Mark the Mighty mouse that he was now calling himself, had woken up his head a little sore.

“That was some cheese, I think I will go and get some more” he said to himself.

The soldiers had never found Mark because after eating the cheese he started to see things, like dancing lights and this had scared him, so he had climbed a tree and hid behind some leaves so the dancing lights could not find him.

Mark the mouse did find that by shutting his eyes the lights didn’t seem so bright, so he managed to fall asleep and as he didn’t snore the soldiers walked right under the tree without disturbing him.

Well Mark the Mighty Mouse quietly climbed down from the tree, he was even wondering how he had managed to get up there in the first place, but he could not remember much after eating the cheese.

Soon he was back outside the palace door; he had ignored the Milky fish that were calling him names as he passed, after all who would call a Mighty Mouse a scary cat?

Why if he was bigger and could swim he would teach those fish a lesson, anyhow he had been called names before and because he didn’t know what they meant he ignored them.

Mark the Mighty Mouse crawled under the big wooden door and quietly made his way to the kitchen and the fridge, “what has happened where is the key,” I know I left it in the keyhole, or did I? I can’t remember much” he said to himself.

Well after quietly looking around searching everywhere in the palace he finally found the key again, it was in the same place that he had found it the first time he was here.

Well after opening the fridge again he found the special cheese, but this time he had thought a little bit more about how to get it, this time he took a small paper bag that he found in the kitchen this would help him carry more away from here.

Soon Mark the Mighty Mouse had filled the bag with the special cheese and a small piece of cake that he had found in the fridge, “That will be nice to eat after my cheese” he said quietly to himself.

Mark the Mighty Mouse pushed the key hard into the keyhole so it could not fall out.

Soon Mark the Mighty Mouse was out into the gardens, the milky fish were waiting for him and again called him a scary cat as he passed the river.

This time he ignored the milky fish but did shout as he ran past “at least I have cheese that I can carry, but you lot have no fish fingers to carry anything”, and Mark the Mighty Mouse laughed as he ran off back to his house.

Well Mark the Mighty Mouse sat down with a piece of cheese and half of the cake to eat.

After eating a little cheese and just before the dancing lights started to return, Mark the Mighty Mouse said, “I think I will call myself Mark the Super Mighty Mouse now as I’m getting better at things every day”.

Meanwhile back at the Cat palace, Queen Bee had quietly crept down from her bedroom and into the kitchen, Queen Bee went to get the key for the fridge but it had gone.

“This can’t be happening again” she screamed and then  Queen Bee set off the alarms, after a while in rushed the soldiers and some of her maids, “Where is the key” shouted Queen Bee, well everyone looked at each other and then back at Queen Bee.

“It’s in the fridge keyhole” said one of the maids hoping that the Queen Bee would not shout at her, “It can’t be I put it back where it should be and it’s not there” said Queen Bee.

Well everyone then looked towards the fridge including Queen Bee and there sitting in the keyhole of the fridge was the key.

Well Queen Bee was shocked to see the key there, as she was sure that she had defiantly put the key back onto the keyboard above the table or had she imagined this?

Perhaps she had already taken the key from the keyboard and opened the fridge without remembering it.

After sending everyone back to their room Queen Bee sat in the kitchen for a while, she was still not sure what had really happened or was she dreaming all this?

After a while Queen Bee went back up to her room, this time she had made sure that the fridge was locked and to make sure nothing else happened tonight she put the key under her pillar and soon managed to drop off to sleep.

As morning broke Queen Bee and Mark the Super Mighty Mouse woke up, Queen Bee quickly checked under her pillow to see if the key was still there and it was.

Well Mark the Super Mighty Mouse had a bit of a headache so he decided to spend the day in bed, he had his cheese and still had a bit of cake left, so he did not need to go hunting for food again today.

Back at the Cat Palace Queen Bee was now dressed, she had an appointment today to have her coat groomed, she had thought about changing the colour of some of her hair and having the nail polish changed to a brighter colour, but she would wait and talk to the beauticians about that when they arrived.

After talking to the beauticians Queen Bee decided to have her nails a bright pink and was persuaded after a short discussion with a few of her trusted friends to have the tail coloured to match the nails, the remainder of her coat would stay the same colour.

Every Cat in the palace were busy preparing and getting everything ready for the big Christmas party that was held every year at the palace for the village cats.

The group that was asked to play in the grand hall, where all the food singing and dancing was to take place had already arrived.

They were called The Village Cats and had set up their equipment at the far end of the room; this seemed to be the best place as it left more room for the dancing.

Soon the cats from the village started to arrive and were shown into the great hall which was just across the hallway to the grand hall, there they were offered some of the treats that had been prepared in the kitchen that morning and offered a drink.

As the palace filled up the band started to play some soft and gentle music to start the evening off, some of the cats were up and dancing while others were sat around talking about anything that was topical at this time.

Some of the younger kittens were playing hide and seek as they had permission to go and hide inside any room that the door had been left open.

Others were sitting with their friends and drinking the rich milk that had been taken from the river and a few of the bigger kittens, were swapping cards of their favourite cat football team players, that they were all collecting at this time.

Soon everyone had arrived and the band were in full swing playing any music and singing any song that was asked for, the food and drinks that had been placed on the long tables was slowly disappearing as the night went on.

As the party ended Queen Bee thanked the band for such a great night which had left every cat in the room very happy, she said that everything they had performed was Purr-fect.

All the presents were handed out to the cats from the village and each of the Kittens were given a big bag of sweets and cake to take away with them, also Queen Bee asked her servants to fill bags of food that was left over and give to the older cats from the village.

The night soon passed and things slowly got back to normal, no more cheese had disappeared and the key to the fridge had not been removed from the keyboard in the kitchen.

Meanwhile Mark the Super Mighty Mouse had been quite busy putting up the Christmas decorations in his house, it had taken him longer than he expected as after having a nibble on the cheese he had to keep dodging the colour lights that chased around him, this had happened so many times now that he just lay down on his bed and ignored them.

It was the day before Christmas and the snow that had fallen during the night now covered all the ground, as Mark the Super Mighty Mouse opened his fridge he could see that there was only one piece of his cheese left, I had better go back to the palace and get some more he thought.

Mark the Super Mighty Mouse waited for the evening to arrive and then made his way to the Cat palace keeping away from the milky river this time as it was quite cold so he didn’t want to stay out to long.

Soon he had squeezed under the door and made his way to the kitchen, all was quiet and this time when he could not see the key in the keyhole he went and took it from the keyboard and he then went back to the fridge and unlocked it, leaving the key in the keyhole.

Mark the Super Mighty Mouse had a look around the fridge found the cheese he took some chunks of the cheese that had been cut and put them in his bag, he looked around and found some Christmas pudding, some cocktail sausages and even some food that he had never seen before.

He had filled his bag now as full as it could be filled and quietly and as fast as he could made his way back to his house, where he put all the food away and into his fridge.

He then made his way up to bed as he didn’t want to be awake when Father Christmas arrived.

As the morning arrived Queen Bee went down into the kitchen to get a glass of the milky water that had been collected and put in a bottle, as she went to get the key she noticed that it was missing from the keyboard.

This time though before shouting or setting off the alarms she looked at the fridge, there in the keyhole was the key.

After checking inside the fridge, at first Queen Bee didn’t notice anything missing, that was until she lifted the lid of off a small tin that she had put her favourite sardines in, the tin was empty and she knew that there should have been two pieces in the tin.

The guards and soldiers were called into the kitchen and told what had happened, Queen Bee told them that this had to stop and we must find out who is doing this.

The Top Cat in charge of the guards and soldiers gave instructions that everywhere must be checked inside and outside for clues and then reported back to him.

After a very short while a soldier reported back to Top cat and said I might have found a clue, all the other guard cats and soldier cats were called back into the palace, listen now all of you we might have a clue of who it was?

The soldier cat was then asked to explain what he had found.

Soldier cat who was known as Jambow by his mates explained that as he was looking close palace he had noticed footprints leading towards and from the palace.

He then had checked inside the kitchen fridge and he had noticed that on part of the floor the same footprints were there as well.

He then went back outside and followed the footprints in the snow up to the milky river and asked the milky fish if they had seen anything.

The milky fish had told him that a mouse that had called himself Mark the Super Mighty Mouse had gone towards the palace on a few occasions with nothing and then came past later with a bag over his shoulder.

The Top Cat told the soldiers to go and follow any footprints from the river and to arrest anyone who they thought might be the thief and bring him back to the palace where he could be questioned.

Soon footprints were found leading into a wooded area and up to a small house at the bottom of a tree.

Well the house and the front door on the house were so small that they couldn’t even knock on the door.

So they lay a trap just outside the door to catch anyone leaving or coming back to or from the house.

Two of the soldiers were given orders to keep close but out of sight of anyone coming or going near the house.

Well inside poor old Mark the Super Mighty Mouse hadn’t a clue with what was going on, he had just woke up from his little sleep and was now feeling a little hungry, he looked in his fridge and decided that he was going to have the sardines that he had purchased earlier.

After having his meal Mark the Super Mighty Mouse turned his TV on and watched the local and world mouse news.

There had been a lot going on during the year, what with the Rat population being targeted for extension by an unknown force and sanctions being imposed if there was a mouse involved in it.

Well Mark the Super Mighty Mouse found this upsetting so he turned the TV off.

He then went to his fridge and took out a small piece of the cheese, only a very small piece as he got tired very quickly trying to run from or dodge the dancing lights that he always saw when he ate the cheese.

After a while of dodging and running from the lights they all calmed down, the lights became dimmer and did not bounce around as they did at the beginning, perhaps they were getting tired as well?

It was getting nearer and nearer to Christmas day and soon would be time for bed. Mark the Super Mighty Mouse put a CD into his player and relaxed listening to the Christmas songs that he liked; listening to music helped him to relax before going to bed.

Outside feeling a little cold the two soldiers pulled up the covers they had while listening to the Christmas music and having a drink from both the two flasks that they always carried with them, each one with hot milk.

As morning approached the two soldiers who were now feeling a little tired were replaced by another two of the soldiers and luckily they were allowed to go home to their family to enjoy Christmas day.

Inside Mark the Super Mighty Mouse had just waked up, he stretched and looked at what had been left for him under the tree by Father Christmas.

Why Mark the Super Mighty Mouse’s sack and stockings were full of everything that he wished for, I’m so happy he said and danced around the room.

Outside the two other cat soldiers were waiting and hoping that they could catch and arrest whoever was inside so they could go home to their family.

Then things changed very quickly, Mark the Super Mighty Mouse decided to go outside and see if it was still snowing as he had no windows in his house so he couldn’t see if it had.

As Mark the Super Mighty Mouse opened and then stepped out of the door into the snow, a net dropped onto him and he found that he could not move.

Well the two cat soldiers jumped up claws drawn just in case this thing that had been caught had powers that they did not have and so could hurt them.

But poor old Mark the Super Mighty Mouse was caught, the net had wrapped itself around him and although he tried he could not move.

The two cat soldiers then radioed back to the Top Cat who was still at the palace saying that they had caught who they think was responsible for the theft from the Queens palace.

The two cat soldiers had to fight off the urge off wanting to eat their prisoner as he looked very meaty.

The soldiers picked up the net with Mark the Super Mighty Mouse and made their way back to the Queen Bee’s palace.

The net with Mark the Super Mighty Mouse inside was laid before Queen Bee, she looked at this thing in the net and thanked the soldiers for all the hard work that they had done.

Mark the Super Mighty Mouse looked up at Queen Bee and asked “What have I done wrong to be tied up like this, I am just a poor mouse trying to get on with my life”?

“You have taken my cheese from my fridge on two occasions and this was my very special cheese, and you also took my last two sardines from the fridge”.

“For that you will be killed for the theft of the cheese and the sardines”, Said Queen Bee, “But I did not know that this was your cheese or your Sardines, I was just hungry and found them by chance” said Mark the Super Mighty Mouse.

“You will be put in prison until I make my mind up” said Queen Bee, “I really am sorry for taking these things, but it has made my Christmas better than it was as last year, as I had nothing then”.

Queen Bee looked at Mark the Super Mighty Mouse and asked why are you called Mark the Super Mighty Mouse?

“Well it all started when I started to eat the cheese that I had taken from your fridge”, “you see, I liked chasing the bright coloured lights but they then started to disappear and I felt tired”.

“But as I carried on some of the animals and fish started to call me names also”, “this hurt me at the start but then it made me feel good”, “so each time I did something that I thought I couldn’t do, I changed my name to make it stronger”.

Just then the bells struck for Christmas day, “I am sorry for taking things that don’t belong to me but as I am a mouse that is what we do”.

“Well as it is Christmas day if I let you go will you promise not to go into my fridge and take things that don’t belong to you”, “I promise” said Mark the Super Mighty Mouse.

“I will keep away from your palace I promise”.

“You can come to the palace anytime you want, but as a friend” said Queen Bee.

Mark the Super Mighty Mouse and Queen Bee then fell in love with each other and finally got married.

He is now known as.

His royal highness “Mark the Super Mighty Mouse Who Is Now Married To The Queen Of The Cats”.

Because of the length of his name when writing to him, look just don’t bother.
