The Fairy Doll

Tulip was busy cleaning the weeds in the small clearing where all the fairies would come together every month.  It was important that the whole clearing was to look clean and colourful as it was a very important day, as all the fairies would be gathering tonight as the fairy queens from all over the world to meet up tonight as it has been for every year.  A great feast was to be held inside the fairy ring and this time it was there queen to who would be holding the party.

All the fairies were excited to make this a great night for their queen and so they all worked very hard to make this a night for everyone to remember.  In the queens palace it was also very busy, all the rooms had been cleaned and sweet fragrant flowers were placed in each room, in the kitchen cakes were being taken from the hot ovens filling the kitchen with a sweet sugary smell that could be smelt around the grounds outside the palace kitchen.

Tulip had just one small patch at the edge of the ring to clear up, then all the tables, the chairs, the stage and finally the queen’s throne would be able to be bought into the ring ready for the party.

As Tulip started to clear some of the taller weeds she noticed a small doll lying on the ground, the dolls clothes were dirty and torn in places and her long blond hair that once would glitter when the sun caught it was covered in dirt.  Tulip carefully picked the doll up and placed it carefully onto the cart that carried her tools.

Soon back at the palace the doll had been washed, her hair had been cleaned and once again she was starting to look as new, there was just one more job to do, the clothes that the doll had been wearing had to be thrown away, for they were to torn and dirty to repair after laying outside for so long.  Tulip though had brought a pretty yellow dress and gold coloured shoes that she owned, soon the doll had been dressed and once again the looked as if it she had never been lost, why she even looked prettier than before.

But Tulip was surprised though and wondered why the doll looked so sad as she looked into the dolls face, the doll was so pretty.  This can’t be right thought Tulip, why would a doll so pretty look so sad?

Tulip picked up the doll and went to see the queen, “I have never seen such a beautiful doll look so sad” said the queen. “We must find out why”?

The queen went to a large cupboard and opened the doors, inside were hundreds and hundreds of bottles; each bottle had a different kind of powder inside that covered all the colours of the rainbow and much more.

The queen looked at all the bottles and picked one from the shelf, “this will tell us why” said the queen, and removed the top from the bottle.  Inside the powder sparkled as if a bright light was shining onto it, the queen took a small amount from the bottle and slowly sprinkled it onto the doll, suddenly the doll came to life and a tear fell from her eye.

“Why are you so sad” asked the queen?

The doll told the queen and Tulip that the little girl who she belonged to who was known as Jenny had been having a picnic with her mother and father and that without them knowing when they were ready to leave, she had fallen from the little girl’s hands and into the weeds when the Jenny  fell asleep.  She said that all she could do was watch as they left, but could do nothing about it and again a tear fell from her eye.

The doll was known as Princess by Jenny and the two were never out of each other’s sight until now and that Jenny must be shedding more tears than her as they both loved each other so much.

Back at Jenny’s house, her mother  Susan had told Jenny that she would buy her a new doll, as it was too far from where they lived to drive all the way back and to try and find Princess, but Jenny did not want another doll she wanted her Princess.

Meanwhile the party was about to start, the queen asked Princess if she would like to join them and that tomorrow she would send her fairies out to find where Jenny lived and that she would soon be back with Jenny.

Princess said “Yes please” and soon she was enjoying all the wonderful things that were going on, she had been asked to dance and join in with all of the fairies that were there, they asked about Jenny and the thing that they did together.  As the evening passed Princess began to feel tired dancing and sat down with a few fairies that were also getting tired.

They all talked about what they do during the daytime and the evening, Princess could not believe how many things they had to do each day.  What with making sure that all the flowers were the right colour and collecting children’s teeth that they had put under there pillow each evening, so that they could make their magic necklace’s to wear to make them invisible to humans and the most important thing was to make sure that they always left a coin for the children where the tooth had been.

As the evening was coming to an end the Queen stood up and thanked everyone for coming and making the evening one of the best that she had seen, slowly the fairies made their way into the Castle.   Inside the castle the sweet smell of all the cakes and all the fruit juices that had been made were soon disappearing and soon all the tables were bare.

Now it was time for the fairies to make their way to their rooms, there they change their clothes ready to fly out to colour any flowers that was not quite the right colour, they also had to collect any children’s teeth that had been left for them and leave them there coin before they woke up in the morning.

Because fairies are magic and fly so fast they could do all of this in just a few moments of time, so before Princess knew it all the fairies were back inside the Castle ready for them to rest and sleep the night away until they start all over again in the morning.

Princess was shown to her room and she could not believe her eyes, as she entered there were silk curtains hanging above all the windows, these had been made by the spiders that lived in and around the ring, they had made them for the Queen, these were very special though as they did not have any sticky surface on them that caught flies or other insects.  Also the bed was huge, dressed in a beautiful coloured cover that looked like a carpet of flowers had sprung up off of the bed.

Princess climbed into the bed and soon fell asleep, she had wonderful dreams that she only had when she was with Jenny.

Morning arrived and the sun slowly peeked through the curtains and lit up the room, Princess woke up, beside her on a small table were a glass of juice and a few sweet smelling biscuits that had been left for her in case she was hungry when she woke.

After having a shower in what was the biggest bathroom that she had ever seen, not that she had seen many, but it was defiantly bigger than Jenny’s.  Princess returned to the room and there laying on her bed were the most beautiful dress and shoes that she had ever seen, it sparkled as the sunlight caught it as Princess put it on, she had always thought that she was a princess by name, but now she felt like one.

After leaving her bedroom Princess started to make her way down the long spiral staircase, there at the bottom she was met by Tulip, “How did you sleep” asked Tulip, “It was wonderful but I missed having Jenny beside me” said Princess. “Not to worry, today all us fairies will search for where she lives and you will soon be back with her”

Soon all the fairies had flown away from the palace to do their jobs, but also making sure that the search for Jenny could be brought back to Princess.

As the day continued Princess stayed beside the queen, they talked about what Jenny and Princess did when they were together, Princess also asked the queen what she had to do each day.  The morning soon passed and although Princess was enjoying every moment with the queen, she still missed Jenny.

The morning passed as one by one the fairies returned, having done what they were asked to do, not one of the fairies could find Jenny and where she lived.  Now only two of the fairies that had left were due to return home,  soon another fairy arrived but as she looked at Princess she slowly shook her head and said “Sorry but I travelled as far as I could but I could not find her”.

“Thank you for trying but there is still one fairy to return, so she might be luckier” said Princess.  The morning had now turned to the late afternoon and all the fairies after changing their clothes and having a meal were all gathered together in the great hall.

Then the door opened as the very last fairy walked into the hall, it was Tulip.

Tulip had a big smile on her face, “I found her, it took a long time searching, but as I was passing a house I heard a small girl crying, so I looked through the window and could hear her asking for her princess”  “She was as you said she would look like, so I know it is your Jenny”

“We must act fast now then, but we cannot just take Princess back to Jenny, we will have to think of a way to get her back without anyone asking questions”, said the queen.

After a while Tulip came up with an idea. “When I was at Jenny’s house I saw a postman leave a parcel at the house why can’t we do the same, but leave it on the doorstep, ring the bell and fly away”.

“But will Princess want to be put into a parcel and left on a doorstep”? “And what if nobody is home and someone takes it away” asked the queen.

“I don’t mind we could always wait until we are sure that they are home, we could also put a note in saying found this I think it belongs to you” said Princess.  Well no other fairy or the queen could think of a better way to do this so they all agreed that this is what will happen.

A note was written and everything was now ready to return Princess to Jenny.

Princess thanked the queen and all the fairies for all the kind things that they had done for her and said that she had enjoyed being with them all and that she had a wonderful time with them all.

The queen took Princess to one side and said “You will always be a fairy doll now, you will always be able to fly and talk and do many more things, but only when you are with Jenny, you must tell her this and tell her to keep this secret”.

“You will also loose all of these powers whenever someone is near you, as this could give away the secret that you are not just a doll any more but a fairy doll, only Jenny and you will know the secret of the fairies and what they can do”

“And you and jenny will always be able to come and visit us, but only if you’re secret is kept”.

Princess was returned to Jenny  and after Jenny’s surprise at all Princess had told her she agreed to keep it a secret and just have fun and love each other forever.

The End
